English giants Manchester United and Chelsea enter the pre-quarters of the Champions League. Chelsea beat Juventus in Group H as United beat Vitoria 2-1 in Group F. But the mighty Barcelona were in a draw. German giants Bayern have won their fifth consecutive Champions League title.
Superstar Cristiano Ronaldo and youngster Jaden Sancho found the target for Manchester United in a match played at Vieira’s home ground. The Red Devils were able to win their first match under new coach Michael Carrick.
Carrick announced his first XI with significant changes to the team. Jaden Sancho, Donnie van Beek, Marshall and Alex Telles all made the starting XI. No goal was scored in the first half. United scored the first goal in the 78th minute of the second half. Ronaldo gave the team the lead when the ball bounced over the head of goalkeeper Rule and into the net. This is Ronaldo’s sixth goal in five Champions League games. This brings the total number of goals scored in the player’s career to 799.
Jordan Sancho also found the back of the net in the 90th minute after Ronaldo. Sancho’s powerful kick pierced the goal net. This is Sancho’s first goal for United. Sancho is the star of the game. United goalkeeper David de Gea also put in a stellar performance. With this, United reached the pre-quarter with 10 points from five games. In another match in the group, Atlanta were held to a draw by the Young Boys. Both teams scored three goals each.
Chelsea beat Juventus 4-1 in Group H. With this, the Blue Army was able to make up for the loss in the first quarter. For Chelsea, Trevo Shaloba, Reese James, Callum Hudson Odoi and Timo Werner found the target. With this victory Chelsea entered the pre-quarter. Juventus have already confirmed the pre-quarter. In another match in the group, Zenit and Malmo drew 1-1.
In Group E, Benfica drew with Barcelona in their first Champions League match under new coach Xavi. Both teams could not find the target. Despite dominating the match, Barcelona were unable to win. Benfica defeated Barcelona in the first quarter. With this draw, Barcelona’s pre-quarter entry was weighed. The team has seven points from five matches.
In another group match, German giants Bayern Munich defeated Dynamo Kiev. Bayern won by two goals to one. Denis Harmash scored Kiev’s consolation goal as superstars Robert Lewandowski and Kingsley Koman found the target for the German team. This is Bayern’s fifth consecutive victory in the Champions League. The team has already secured the pre-quarter.
In other matches, Sevilla beat Wolfsburg by two goals to none, while Lille RB beat Salzburg by a goalless draw.
Manchester United have reached the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League after beating head coach Ole Gunnar Soldier. United beat Spanish club Villarreal. United won by two goals to one at Villarreal’s home ground. Cristiano Ronaldo (78) and Jaden Sancho (90) scored the goals.
Two brilliant saves from goalkeeper David de Gea helped United. With the win, United secured 10 points from five games to advance to the quarter-finals. Vieira Real are second with seven points from each match. The Young Boys drew 3–3 with Italian club Atlanta this morning. If they win the final match, Via Real can advance.
- Chelsea pass
Defending champions Chelsea also secured a place in the quarter-finals with a convincing victory over Juventus in Group H. Chelsea beat UE by four goals in a one-sided affair. Trevo Caloba (25), Reese James (55), Hudson Odoi (58) and Timo Werner (90 + 5) scored for Chelsea.
With the win, Chelsea secured the pre-quarter with 12 points from five games. Juventus, with 12 points, had already secured the quarter-finals. If Zenit beat St. Petersburg in the final, Chelsea can retain the top spot and move on. In the final match for Yue, the opponent is the weak Malmo FF.
- Equivalent Group G
The battle for pre-quarter entry in Group G was further intensified by the victory of French club Lille and Spanish club Sevilla. Leal RB beat Salzburg 1-0 and Sevilla beat Wolfsburg 2-1.
Leal leads the group with eight points from five games with one game remaining. The other teams have seven points from Salzburg, six from Seville and five from Wolfsburg. It means everyone has hope.
- Bayern jump, Bara shrink
With the fifth consecutive victory in Group E, German champions Bayern Munich maintained their dominance. Bayern beat Dynamo Kiev by two goals to one. Roberto Lewandowski (14) and Kingsley Komen (42) scored the goals. Dynamo Kiev’s consolation goal was scored by Harmash in the 70th minute
Meanwhile, Benfica drew with Barcelona in the second match of the group. Benfica drew 0-0 with Bara at home. With this, Barsa’s knockout hopes faded. Barsa can only advance if they beat the mighty Bayern Munich in the final. Or Benfica Dynamo should not have beaten Kiev in the last match!
With the win, Bayern scored 15 points from five games. They had already secured the prequarters. Barsa have seven points from five games. If Barsa lose the last match and Benfica wins by five points from five games, they will advance to the knockout stage. Bara will be eliminated. If Benfica lose or draw, Barsa can advance without looking at the outcome of the match.
